The sun is out, temperatures are rising – yes, another glorious Hampton Roads summer is finally on its way! Here are some of Jack Rabbit’s favorite tips for getting your house ready for a season of backyard parties, grilling, and warm weather fun.

Spiff Up Your Outdoor Furniture
Whether your outdoor furniture is coming out of your Jack Rabbit storage unit or it stayed with you through the winter, it could use a little TLC. Most outdoor fabrics are safe to put in washing machines; use warm water and be sure to air dry. Remove rust from metal frames with a wire brush and touch up scratches with an exterior paint.

Get Ready to Grill
Whether you fire up with gas or charcoal, every grill needs a good cleaning once in awhile. Wash grates with warm, soapy water and a steel wool pad. For charcoal grills, clear ash and debris from the kettle bowl, then wipe it down. If you use gas, heat the grill for about 10 minutes so it’s easier to clean. Be sure to disconnect the gas line before you clean and check your propane level once you’re done.

Patio Prep
Make sure your outdoor spaces are party ready. Power wash patios, porches, and decks to remove winter gunk. Reseal or repaint wood surfaces. It’ll be looking like new in no time!

Beat the Heat
Hot Southern summers are a reality in Hampton Roads. Check to see that your air conditioner is in good working order before the first heat wave comes. If you have central air, get your HVAC unit inspected. For window units, replace filters and check to be sure it’s working well – those little guys do lose their steam over time. If any replacements need to be made, you’ll be glad you did this early!
