Back to School,
Back to Storage

September 9, 2017

The leaves aren’t turning, but an even surer sign of autumn is on its way: kids are headed back to school! It’s important for your whole family to start the new year on the right foot, and there’s no better way to do that than by getting summer out of the house. We’ve got some great ideas for back-to-school storage. Check them out below!

Start Slow
Summer vacation may be over, but warmer weather will be around for a while, so don’t pull the sweaters out just yet. Instead, make a schedule for boxing up summer things, bringing out your winter belongings, and tearing down your outdoor setup. For instance, if you have a pool, start thinking about closing it down after the first day of fall. There’s at least one perfect pool day left! Patio furniture is safe through about Thanksgiving.

Make A Homework Nook
Getting kids to do their homework is a struggle. Why not sweeten the deal with a bright, cheerful workspace? Use office organizers in your child’s favorite colors to make sure that everything from erasers to worksheets have somewhere to go. With stacking storage bins, designate bins for report cards, tests, drawings, and anything else they might bring home.

Show Off
Every home needs a brag wall! Making one is a quick and easy DIY project. Paint a large picture frame in the color of your choice. Once it’s dried, run twine inside the frame, atop the glass, and glue to either side. Hang clothespins from the twine, and you’ve got a place to hang what you’re proudest of. If you want to go the extra mile, color code the clothespins by family member!

Mess Minimizer
Back to school means back to after school activities. If your children are involved in sports, it’s always a great idea to have an area for them to drop their dirty equipment. Label large bins for specific things, like balls and pads. Hanging racks can be used to air out sweaty hats and cleats. Your home – and your athlete’s gym bag – will stay clean and fresh.
