Moving Tips

August 8, 2017

We’ve all been there: a move is coming up, and you’re so stressed you don’t know where to begin. It doesn’t have to be that way! Jack Rabbit has a few tips to make the moving process a breeze.

Say Goodbye
One surefire way to make moving easier is to carry less baggage. While you’re packing, think about which of your things you’ve outgrown or otherwise don’t use. Offer your giveaway items to friends and family first, then choose how to dispose of them. If you aren’t looking to make money off of your goods, donate them to your favorite charity thrift store.

Organize, Organize, Organize
Nothing is worse than unpacking the moving truck and realizing you don’t know what’s in any of your boxes. If you’re using cardboard boxes, be sure to write which room they’re going into on the top and sides. For plastic bins, use a different color of tape for each destination. For extra organizational punch, assign each box a number, and use a spreadsheet keep track of the numbers and contents.

Shrink Your Stuff
With vacuum sealed storage bags, you’re able to get a lot of stuff into a tiny space. They are perfect for out-of-season clothes, bedding and pillows, and coats. Once they’ve been vacuumed, they’ll fit nicely under the bed or into a closet of your choosing until they’re ready to be used.

Keep the Essentials Handy
Make a special box for the items you know you’ll need immediately so that you don’t spend your first night in a new place digging through boxes. Pack an overnight bag with pajamas, clothes for a day or two, and toiletries. Use clear plastic bins for things like cleaning supplies, trash bags, power chargers, and shelf-stable food like bread and peanut butter for an easy meal.
