What is Self-Storage?

Self storage is an affordable, efficient way for you to store your possessions in a clean and secure environment. Self storage makes it easy to store items of all shapes and sizes in one convenient storage location. You provide the lock and keep the only key(s).

Do I need climate control?

This decision depends on a number of factors including what type of items are being stored.  Climate Control storage units provide added protection for your stored goods and our premium HVAC systems control both temperature and humidity.  Please consult our storage experts who would be more than happy to recommend the ideal unit to best suit your specific needs.  Call us today at 757-962-6914.

What are the lease terms?

All of our rentals are on a month-to-month basis and automatically renew monthly until you give us a vacate notice.

What hours can a unit be rented?

Rent online 24/7. Complete and sign the rental paperwork and move-in daily from 9 AM – 9 PM.

Do you pro-rate rent?

Jack Rabbit does not pro-rate monthly rental rates. We will be happy to charge you for a few extra days past your due day. We do not refund partial months.

What size units do you have and how much do they cost?

We have a wide variety of unit sizes to meet your needs. Unit sizes and prices vary by location.

Do you have trucks?

We offer a Free Truck Rental with move in or Rent our truck when it’s time to move out.

How do I pay for my unit?

Payments can be processed in person, by telephone, by mail or through our website. You may also arrange for payments to be drafted from your account or charged to your credit card monthly.

What is a “Rate-Lock Guarantee?”

Our RATE-LOCK GUARANTEE will allow you to budget knowing your rent will remain the same price for one-year.

       Who has access to my space besides me?

You will be the only one to have access to your unit, unless you add someone to your account to have authorized access. You will need to provide your authorized access person(s) with your gate code and the key to your lock.

Is vehicle storage allowed?

Yes, we recommend at least a 10×20 size unit for most vehicles. Extended trucks with a long bed or large SUV’s usually fit well in a 10×25 size unit.

Do you have outdoor/indoor vehicle storage?

We offer inside vehicle storage at all 11 locations and we have limited outside parking at a few of our locations.

Do you have RV parking spaces?

We have limited RV parking spaces at our Military Highway location.

Do you sell packing supplies?

We offer a wide variety of packing supplies. Stop by our “one-stop” shop today and find all the tools you need to move like a pro.

I lost the key to my lock; what can I do?

Simply stop by our office with a picture ID and a new lock and we will be happy to cut the lock at no charge for the owner of the unit.

Do you allow PODS on the property?

We will allow a POD to be placed on the property to unload for 24 hours.

Renting a Unit

What hours can a unit be rented?

Rent online 24/7. Complete and sign the rental paperwork and move-in daily from 9 AM – 9 PM.

Do I have to reserve a unit online before coming to the office to rent a unit?

No. Renting a unit online will help speed up the rental process the day you stop by to complete and sign the rental paperwork.

What if I’m not sure what size space I need?

No problem. We will be happy to show you around the property and let you see a number of unit sizes. Seeing units in person is the best way to decide which size is best for you.

Do I have to sign a lease?

No, but a signed monthly Rental Agreement is required. All rentals are from month-to-month.

What do I need to rent a unit?

Driver’s license or government issued photo ID, a lock and payment for the first month’s rent. We accept the following forms of payment: check, cash, money order, ACH bank debit, MasterCard, Visa, AMEX and Discover.

When can I move-in?

Immediately after you have completed all the rental paperwork and paid for the unit. Our gates are open daily 7 AM – 9 PM.

Can someone else rent a unit for me in my name?

No. The person renting the unit must be present to provide a photo ID and sign the Rental Agreement. If you are out of town and would like to rent the unit, let us know. We can fax/email you all the documentation required to rent a unit.

Do I need a lock?

Yes. You must provide/purchase your own lock and you keep the only key(s). Remember, the lock on your unit provides the last line of defense against an intruder; the better the lock, the better your defense.

Prohibited Items

The following items may never be stored at Jack Rabbit:

Storage Tips

Before Packing:

  • Take pictures or video record everything for insurance purposes in the event of a claim.
  • Inventory all of your goods and keep the list in a safe place at home or in a safe deposit box.
  • Drain all washers and garden hoses
  • Clean and cover charcoal grills
  • Storing a cooler? Be sure to open all drain plugs.
  • Vacuum out sofas and chairs; this can help keep out insects and rodents.
  • Do not store anything that is labeled COMBUSTIBLE such as gasoline, paint, paint thinners, etc.

While Packing:

  • Mark “Fragile” on boxes containing breakables.
  • Pack in same size boxes when possible, for easy stacking.
  • Pack clothes in boxes, cedar scented paper garment bags or on hangers in wardrobe boxes.
  • Wrap each piece of glassware and dishes with newsprint to avoid breakage.
  • Put baking soda or unused coffee grounds in refrigerators, freezers, stoves and coolers to absorb odors.
  • Use trash cans to store garden tools such as shovels, rakes, hoses, etc.
  • Remember, moth balls add an additional layer of protection against bugs and rodents.
  • Store pictures and mirrors on end. Wrap in cardboard and mark “Fragile”.

While Storing:

  • Store frequently used items near the front of your unit and allow room for walking.
  • Store seasonal clothing in separate boxes near the front of your unit for easy access when needed.
  • Stack boxes containing lighter items and breakables on top of those containing books or other heavy items.
  • Use pallets, 2×4’s, or other slats to keep goods from direct contact with concrete floors and block walls.
  • Remove table legs when possible to save space and stand table top on end.
  • Store refrigerators and freezers with door ajar or removed. Use the shelves to store other light boxes or bags.
  • Store sofas and love seats standing on end and on pallets, if possible, to save space.
  • Remember, the lock on your unit provides the last line of defense against an intruder. The better the lock, the better your defense.

On The Property

What are your office hours?

Our managers are on duty Mon – Fri 9 AM – 5:30 PM and Sat 9 AM – 3 PM.

What are the gate access hours?

7 AM – 9 PM 364 days a year. Our offices and gates are closed in observance of Christmas Day.

When can I rent a storage unit?

Rent online 24/7. Complete and sign the rental paperwork and move-in daily from 9 AM – 9 PM.

Do you allow bands to practice on your facility or in your units?

Our storage units are for storing belongings. We do not allow bands to practice on our facility or in our units.

Do you provide pest control?

Yes, we use professional preventative exterminating measures at all locations.

I would like to dispose of some items in my unit. Do you have dumpsters available?

Yes, our dumpsters are available for you to dispose of small items in your unit. We do not allow you to bring items from off the property to dump in our dumpsters.

Are moving truck/vans allowed on the property?

Yes, most of our driveways feature 30-foot widths that can easily accommodate the largest truck or van. If you’re planning to move in with an 18-wheeler, please let the manager know at the time of rental so that we may locate your unit nearest to the entrance.

Truck Rentals

Do you have trucks for rent?

We offer a Free Truck Rental with move in or Rent our truck when it’s time to move out.

When can I pick up the truck?

Our trucks are available for pick-up Mon – Fri 9 AM – 5 PM and Saturday 9 AM – 3 PM.

What do I need to rent the truck?

A valid driver’s license, insurance card and current credit card all in the same name as the person renting the truck.

How long can I keep the truck?

If you rent the truck you may keep the truck for 24 hours. If you received the truck free with move-in, time is based on the size unit you rented.

How much does it cost to rent the truck?

We rent the truck for $29.99 daily plus $.75 per mile. Truck must be returned with full tank of gas with proof of refueling receipt.

Can I reserve the truck?

Yes, if it’s available. Please contact your resident manager and provide them with all the required documents needed to use the truck and we will be happy to reserve the truck for a specific date.
